Gankutsuou - The Count of Monte Cristo - Chapter 3
One of the things I like about anime is that it
allows the creative spirit to roam as far as possible without physical

limitations like so-called "live action" movies do. While computer generated

imaging (CGI) has helped bridge the gap between the two forms of
entertainment,
anime still has the ability to push further in telling a
story, albeit within
the confines of whatever budget is allotted to a
particular show. That said, one
of my favorite series in recent months has
been one based on a story written by
Alexandre Dumas hundreds of years ago,
with the latest volume being
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
V3
Here's a quick reminder of what took place previously for those who
haven't read...

24 Hours In The Life Of A Woman

Those familiar with Austrian writer Stefan Zweig and his novel 24 Hours in
the Life of a Woman
will find plenty to admire in Laurent Bouhnik's
latestadaptation of this classic story which was originally shot for a
certain French TV network. The story is indeed quite complicated as it
follows the unusual confession of a retired ambassador (Michel Serrault) who
has arrived at the French Riviera looking for piece and solace. While
gambling at one of the posh local casinos Louis becomes involved in an
unfortunate brawl that leaves the stunningly beautiful Olivia (Berenice
Bejo) in his shaky hands. Olivia and Louis will quickly establish an unusual
bond that will ease the old ambassador in revealing a secret that has been
tormenting his soul for years.<

The New Kids
From: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment -
Year: 1985 - Rated: R - Release Date: October 04, 2005 - Features: Anamorphic *
Widescreen * The New Kids isn't one of the better suspense films you'll ever
see, and doesn't even come close to besting director Cunningham's Friday the
13th. I didn't expect it to, though, which makes it all the more of a pleasant
surprise and a heck of a way to kill a couple of hours

A History of Violence
From: New Line Home Cinema - Year: 2005 -
Rated: R - Release Date: March 14, 2006 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD
5.1 * Extras! * - Recommended! A History of Violence is not a film for all
tastes, but its complex narrative should please viewers willing to endure the
nasty violence. This Platinum Edition release also includes some worthy extras
that effectively complement the film. If you missed this picture during its
theatrical run, I highly recommend you give it a chance on DVD.

The Agatha Christie Miss Marple Movie Collection
From: Warner Home Video - Year: 1961-1964 -
Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: March 14, 2006 - Features: Anamorphic *
Widescreen * Comedy meets suspense to excellent effect in this foursome of deft
thrillers that make the most of Margaret Rutherford's talents. Call them
mysteries that are enjoyable even by people who don't much care for mysteries.
The transfers are fine, though the extras are scanty.

Ten Little Indians
From: Warner Home Video - Year: 1965 -
Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: March 14, 2006 - Features: Anamorphic *
Widescreen * A rather disappointing effort at the oft-filmed story, with an
equally disappointing source print and few extras.

Tales from the Crypt - The Complete Third Season

The Series:
Tales From The Crypt had it all a fantastic roster of directorial
talent, great writers, some amazing casting choices, and of course, a wise
cracking undead puppet host voiced by John Kassir to open and close each
episode. Steeped in the rich tradition of William M. Gaines' horror and suspense
comics from the fifties - Tales From The Crypt, The Vault Of
Horror
and Shock Suspense Stories respectively the series, which
lasted seven seasons on HBO, has remained a fan favorite from the time its first
episode aired on June 10, 1989 until it went off the air on July 19, 1996.
Thankfully, the undead host and his friends have found new life on DVD and
thanks to Warner Brothers the complete seasons of the show are now being made
available completely uncut and with some interesting features as well. A whole
lot of you boys a ghouls will be happy about that...

WWE - Armageddon 2005

Armageddon, the latest SmackDown! PPV, took place on
December 18th, 2005 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Besides being Juventud's last and Kid Kash's first pay-per-view, this event was
als unique because it's the first Armageddon where neither the WWE Championship
or the World Heavyweight Championship titles were on the line. In fact, the only
strap up for grabs is the Crusierweight belt.

Matt Hardy vs. JBL -> Matt, the more talented of the two Hardys, takes on
JBL in the this opening match. I still think it's a shame Matt was banished to
SmackDown! (well, a s...

La Double Vie de Veronique (French Release)
DVD Talk Collector Series

The DVD:

I think it is fare to say that in the heart of Krzysztof Kieslowski's La
Double Vie de Veronique
lays controversy. So much of it that the film is
often viewed by knowledgeable cinephilles as a story that simply does not
necessitate a definitive resolution! Those who would attempt to link all of the
missing pieces in Kieslowski's puzzle will most likely walk away tormented by
the fact that nothing is as crystal clear as they hoped it will be.

La Double Vie de Veronique follows the lives of two different women:
Veronika and Veronique. They were born on the same day, they share the same
talent, and they both suffer from the same heart complication. They know nothing
about each other yet occasionally they would feel a "certain presence". Veronika
lives in Krakow, Poland, Veronique lives in Paris, France.

Kieslowski walks us into his film with a short intr...Read the entire review
